Privacy policy

1. Introduction

GeoFC is a daily soccer geography game operated by One Sideline LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information we collect when you play, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using GeoFC you agree to the practices described here.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you provide

• Account details: your email address, username, and password. Passwords are stored only as a secure hash, never in plain text.
• Your favorite club, if you set one.
• Anything you send us through the game: problem reports about questions and club suggestions.

2.2 Automatically collected information

• An anonymous session identifier stored in a cookie, so your daily play can resume if you refresh the page. You can play without an account and this is all we keep.
• Gameplay data: the boards you played, the places you pinned, how long each answer took, and your scores.
• Standard server logs, such as IP address and browser type, kept for security and troubleshooting.
• Aggregate visit statistics via Umami, a cookieless analytics service that stores no personal information (see section 9).

3. How we use your information

• To run the game: scoring your guesses, keeping your history, and ranking you on leaderboards under your username.
• To email you things you asked for: login links, email confirmation, account notifications, and, only if you turn them on, streak reminders, which every reminder email lets you turn off with one click. We don't send marketing email.
• To review the problem reports and club suggestions you submit.
• To keep competition fair: detecting cheating, automation, and abuse.
• To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms of service.

4. Information sharing and disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:

• On leaderboards, where other players see your username and scores. Your email address is never shown to other players.
• With service providers that help us run GeoFC, such as hosting and email delivery, and only as needed to provide the service.
• When the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our players or ourselves.
• As part of a business transfer, such as a merger or sale of assets, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.

Map tiles are loaded from OpenFreeMap, which means your browser requests map images directly from their servers while you play. We don't send them anything about you beyond what any web request carries.

5. Data security

We protect your information with encryption in transit, hashed passwords, and access controls on our infrastructure. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

6. Data retention

We keep your account information and gameplay history while your account is active. Anonymous play is tied only to the session cookie in your browser. If you want your account and its history deleted, email support@playgeofc.com and we'll remove it, except where we need to keep records to meet legal obligations or resolve disputes.

7. Your rights and choices

You can change your username, email, and password in account settings at any time. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your personal information. Send those requests to support@playgeofc.com.

8. Children's privacy

GeoFC is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

9. Cookies and tracking

The only cookie we set is the session cookie that keeps you logged in and your daily play attached to your browser. We don't use advertising cookies or any cross-site tracking. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, but without the session cookie the game can't remember your play between page loads.

To understand overall traffic we use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics service. It sets no cookies and stores no personal information: we see aggregate counts of page views, visits, referring sites, country, and browser type, never your identity, and nothing that follows you to other sites.

10. International data transfers

Your information may be stored and processed on servers outside your state, province, or country, where data protection laws may differ from those where you live. By using GeoFC you consent to these transfers.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new date at the top, and we encourage you to review it periodically.
